The illustrator

Franziska Frahm (also known as Kaspaara) is a freelance illustrator based in Potsdam, Germany. Since graduating in early 2021 she has dedicated her time to establishing her online art business, taking on bespoke commission work and continously developing new projects.

Being and admirer of all things fantastical, intricate and ornamental - as well as slightly eccentric - in traditional book illustration Franziska feels very much at home in the UK, where she aspires to live one day. London and Edinburgh are her favorite cities in the world!

"Creating colourful worlds and characters that are designed to be liked by children and grown-ups alike, I work in both digital and traditional media, therein specialising in watercolor and ink painting techniques."

The workspace

This is the corner of my room where the magic happens: Painting, drawing, printing & writing.

Inspirations

“Starting with the adventures of my Jack Russel terrier Gina and ending with the leaves in my morning cup of tea, the list of inspirations is long and everything could spark an idea or bring a new character to life. I tend to incorporate elements of art nouveau (William Morris) and impressionism (Claude Monet) into my work. Through my art I hope to convey the joy of living: Stories of beauty, light and laughter most often to be found in fleeting everyday moments - captured. The natural world with its many fascinating creatures will always be one of the biggest contributors to the scenes I create. Animals are endearingly honest about everything they do, following an ancient call.”
