Book illustration exhibition

In summer 2019 I gave a small exhibiton at my university that was planned weeks beforehand and executed with - as I was told - great success. Here are some visual insights on the day, giving you an idea of the exhibition and what it was all about: My illustrated book, "Blizzard"! In the first picture above you can see my professor holding said book in her hands, beaming, and me secretly wondering when would be a good time to eat my cookie.

Interested to learn more about this exhibition and how it came about?

I'm not the only student at the University of Europe for Applied Sciences Hamburg who got to showcase some of their best work properly even before the big bachelor's exhibition that marks the day of graduation. We’re given an amazing opportunity and are encouraged to take advantage of it: To use a certain wall space meant only for us students of Illustration.

We choose pieces that are meaningful to us or tell a story and let our fellow students in on the creative process, the "behind the scenes" - giving a vernissage speech is part of the experience, as is preparing everything carefully, framing the artwork ourselves, etc. After the exhibition is officially open, we are permitted to let the work stay in its place for a time of two weeks before the next student is granted the space in order to get their work out there. Students who wish to take part in this only need to save a time slot within the current semester; and I'm glad I did!

There’s always room for a story that can transport people to another place.
